What I Wore - Blogger Picnic

I know I wrote about the Blogger Picnic in a previous post, but I figured I should also do a 'What I Wore' post, since my good friend Shalanda of Live Life in Style took some awesome pictures of my outfit! She's a great photographer and a wonderful blogger.

Hermann Park is an excellent location for pictures, and even just the day Shalanda and I were walking around and taking pictures there were at least three other photographing groups doing the same thing!

My outfit mostly features items from Torrid, one of my favorite stores!
I wore a fun floral hi-lo top perfect for fall (but still works with the still-warm temperatures here in Texas), boyfriend jeans that fit like a dream, and silver sandals that go with practically everything. The hat I wore is from Wet Seal, one I haven't had a chance to wear often enough. Glad I had it for such a sunny afternoon!

Without further ado, here are the OOTD pictures!
All photo credits go to Shalanda Turner of Live Life in Style. Go check out her blog!

Blogger Picnic at Hermann Park - Image Post

This past Sunday a few of the Blogger groups here in Houston had a picnic gathering at Hermann Park, just outside of Miller Outdoor Theatre. It was a great time, we got to introduce ourselves and our blogs, chat, eat yummy food, and have an all around good time. The parking at Hermann Park was awful, but in the end it was a great day!

After the picnic, I got to hang out with Shasie of Live Life in Style for a bit and had a great time just walking, talking, and taking pictures of our Outfits of the Day. Spending time with friends always makes up for less-than-perfect situations like the parking fiasco!

Below are some of the snapshots I managed to catch of the event, and an OOTD pictures taken by Shasie. The top, jeans, and sandals are all from Torrid, and the hat is from Wet Seal.

Until next time!

What I Wore - Event Sketching

Tonight I had the privilege of sketching for a baby shower! I have no pictures of the event itself, but I did want to post some pictures of the outfit I got to wear.

Jumpsuit - Cato Fashions
Silver Wedges and Cami - Torrid
Personal Logo Bag - Society6

If you wish to purchase the logo bag, it's available in three sizes at my Art Store here, along with a ton of other fun stuff!

That's all for now, thanks for reading!

Wired International's Villa Wanderlust Event

Today there was a wonderful Pop Shop Event titled 'Villa Wanderlust' at Wired International LLC near Downtown Houston today. The location was a beautifully quaint house with lots of rooms and niches where different boutiques and designers had their wares on display.

I got to meet up with my friends Heather of LA Fashion Snob and Shalanda of Live Life in Style and we had a great time sipping on unique teas, munching on yummy bites, and wandering about the house and seeing the unique items for sale.

There was jewelry, art, bags, novelty items, most of them handmade or imported. It was a plethora of wonderful items, and I wish I would have been able to buy all of them!!

Some of the boutiques and shops that were on display included:

and more!

There was artwork on display from various local artists like Betirri Bengston, too, and everything was so elegantly put together for this event! It was a wonderful opportunity to mingle, network, and shop local wares.

I even had a chance to network with the designers of Elle Milady, and painted a sample illustration for them in the hopes of collaborating or working with them again later.

Here's a set of pictures from the event, including an outfit picture of What I Wore! Dress from Torrid and shoes from Wet Seal.

Enjoy!

I'm sorry for the lack of posts lately, work has been keeping me busy and I have not been as motivated to blog and make art as I used to. I'm hoping that as more events arise, I will be able to attend more and continue to write.

A better day, plus some more paintings!

The last month or so has been pretty rough, needless to say. I resigned from my brief job at a boutique in Uptown Park Houston, and had been pretty down on myself for being unable to really find anything else. Being an artist, of course I want to have a job utilizing my skill! But I'm fine with whatever I can get at this point. Luckily, I had an interview with Torrid at the Houston Galleria, and I'm hopeful that I might be brought on as a sales associate for one of my favorite plus-size stores.

Not only that, but I've been getting back into painting on a regular basis as well. Forgive the photos below, the camera on my phone isn't the greatest.

The first is a brightly colored printed dress that I drew up. I was getting a bit tired of seeing black and white and frumpy shapes while shopping at Dillard's one day, and decided to create something to cheer me up. I love the line drawing, feel free to save it and color it yourself if you like!

I'm loving the pantone spring colors for this season, and I must say, Strawberry Ice is probably the color I want to wear the most! Hi-lo's are probably getting overused by now, but I couldn't help drawing another one here.

This was a painting I did today, straight from the Torrid line-up to celebrate my interview today! It's a gold foil printed dress with an asymmetrical hem. You can find it on clearance here, on their website!

It was a really great day today, and I even managed to get some Outfit of the Day pictures of what I was wearing to my interview! Check it out!

I'm also happy to say that I'm an official member of the Houston Fashion Bloggers! I'm hopeful for the future, and what it holds for me... For once, things are starting to finally look up again!

Birthday Shopping! Celebrating 25 years!

Today was my 25th Birthday! It's hard to believe that I'm a quarter of a century now... but time does fly, after all. My husband gifted me with some money to go shopping - my favorite gift of all! I went with my best friend, Meg, out to the Katy Mills Mall. It's always been a favorite hangout of mine here in Houston when I was a teenager, so it's nice to have a day out there again.

I wore some of my favorite items to celebrate: my trusty eShakti skirt with a newer belt, my favorite Modcloth flats (which are starting to wear out, oh no!), and a cute metallic print tank top I got from Dilliard's!

It was a wonderfully relaxing day, a day I really needed after dealing with putting the house in Richardson on the market, the move to Houston, and trying to find a job.

Good news, though! The house already has an offer that we accepted! So if all goes well, then the house will be in the hands of new owners by the end of February!

The first store Meg and I went to was an H&M, but unfortunately aside from a few cute shoes and some jewelry, there wasn't a plus size section to peruse. Boo.

However, the second store was an Old Navy! I sifted through some things that I've never tried before, like the new Joggers trend I've been seeing pop up a lot lately. They're cute, but not for me. I DID get a cute button up top, though! In the Pantone color of the year, no less - Marsala. Or close enough. Along with it, I got a cute red and silver bracelet that was on sale.

The next store is among my favorites! Forever XXI is an excellent place for plus size clothing (when they have the section included in the store, anyways). It does take time to dig through the racks, and there is a lot of black and more out-there trends. Personally, crop tops and jumpsuits just don't seem to agree with me.

However, there are plenty of diamonds in the rough when you know what you're looking for! I was specifically looking for unique colors, patterns, and textures. And what I found was amazing!

First off is this gorgeous magenta tank dress. The material is a nice thickness, and the shape and cut works for both professional settings as well as going out. It's also really comfortable! Purple is one of those colors I can't get enough of, and need more of it in my closet!

The second dress was a black and gold lace tank dress. Similar in shape to the purple dress, but with lace sleeves. I love a-line looks, I think they're really flattering on me, and they're great for dressing up or down.

This gold and black dress is especially fun - the lace texture is really interesting, and takes a new spin on an otherwise basic dress.

After a meal in the food court, Meg and I wandered around some more. I purchase a couple other items, and then it was time to head on home! Meg took the pictures you see here! She did a great job, and I feel that everything I got is flattering and looks great on me! Plus Size never looked so good, eh?

After a long day of shopping, I came home to a husband already returned from work. We went out to a quick dinner and went to a fencing practice for our SCA group! Had a wonderful time hanging out with friends!

I had a wonderful birthday - and I look forward to what lies ahead for me in the years to come!
